FORT WORTH -- Richard Jerry Bodak passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

Service: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Fort Worth. Burial will follow in DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Richard's honor to St. Matthews Lutheran Church of Fort Worth, Paralyzed Vets or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Richard was born in October of 1941 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Jerry and Blanche Bodak. He graduated Columbia University College of Pharmacy in 1963. Richard married Anita Trautmann on May 1, 1965, at Christ Lutheran Church in Woodside, N.Y. He continued his education and completed his master's degree from Trinity University in 1970. Richard joined the Air Force in 1965 as a second lieutenant; he was then stationed at Gunter AFB in Alabama and Cannon AFB in Clovis, N.M. In 1972 he transitioned to the Air Force Reserves and subsequently retired in 1989 as a major. He was a retired member of the Air Force Association and the Retired Officers Association. Richard pursued his career as a pharmacist until his retirement in 2009. He valued education so much so that a large amount of his time was spent advancing his knowledge through continuing education.

Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, caring father and doting grandfather.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Peter C. Trautmann.

Survivors: His wife of 49 years and 11 months, Anita Bodak; daughter, Paige Vogl and husband, Stephen; son, Eric Bodak and wife, Heather; grandchildren, Preston Bodak, Anneliese Vogl; sister, Trudy Guerra and husband, Alfred; nephew, Michael Guerra; sister-in-law, Marieanna Trautmann; nephew, Peter Mark Trautmann; extended family; and many dear friends.
