Claudette Frances Speaker Cogswell, 81 passed away on May 15, 2017. Claudette, the oldest of three children, was born on October 13, 1935 to Claude Franklin Speaker and Naomi England Speaker in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She received her early education in Shawnee, Oklahoma prior to moving to Sherman, Texas where she graduated from high school and attended Austin College.

Claudette married Patrick F. Cogswell of Sherman on April 8, 1955 and their first home was in Dallas where the first of their four children was born. After several moves during their early married years, the family settled in Fort Worth in late 1969. Claudette worked for TCU until 1982 and earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree Magna Cum Laude. The family was very active for many years at South Hills Christian Church. She was an active member of National Society of Fund Raising Executives in both Fort Worth and Dallas. Claudette was employed in public relations and fund raising for church related organizations including National City Christian Church in Washington D.C. and Juliette Fowler Homes in Dallas. She loved and cared for her family and was known for her chicken spaghetti and "mashed" potato salad. Her interests included reading, learning, crosswords and gardening when she was able.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Rita Stafford and Lourdes Dixon, the caregivers who made it possible for Claudette to spend her final years at home with Pat. They would also like to recognize Encompass Hospice and Home Instead for their assistance in keeping Claudette at home.

Claudette was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Claude Speaker, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, her children: Patty Gourley and husband Ken, Janis Cogswell and her partner Jan, Thomas Cogswell, and Scott Cogswell and her brother Leonard Speaker. Grandchildren: Jason Bond, David Cogswell, Clara Cogswell and Devon Cogswell and great grandchildren: Lucas Bond, Lexie Bond and Julia Bond and several nieces and nephews. Funeral: 3 p.m. Saturday at South Hills Christian Church on 3200 Bilglade Road in Fort Worth followed by a brief reception in the Parlor. Interment: Saturday at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
